CSCL sees 3Q revenues soar 23pc
CHINA Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) has posted third quarter revenues of CNY7.78 billion (US$961.85 million), an increase of 23.2 per cent compared to the same three month period last year that ended September 30 on the back of strong demand for container shipping services and higher freight rates.
The Hong Kong-listed mainland shipping line said that percentage wise freight rates increased on average by 1.5 per cent during the third quarter, up from CNY6,365 per TEU between July and September last year.
CSCL's shipping volume rose 21.4 per cent in the third quarter to 1.2 million TEU, while its capacity rose 9.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2004, in line with expectations that newbuilds entering the fleet will boost the company's shipping capacity by 37.4 per cent by the end of 2005 compared to last year, reported Dow Jones.
CSCL has also recently held a christening ceremony for a new vessel that was built by Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co.
The 4,250-TEU newbuild named the "Xin Beilun" is the first in a series of four similar vessels to be delivered - in fact one month ahead of schedule - to the Chinese carrier, Xinhua reported.
The Xin Beilun brings the total number of vessels in the CSCL fleet to 140.
