China Shipping, CMA CGM, to launch joint Asia-Europe service
CMA CGM and China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) plan to launch a new joint service between Asia and Europe that would enable both shipping lines to rationalise their other existing services that ply this popular trade route.
Rationalisation for the French shipping giant means that this new service, which has been named the "FAL2 / AEX7", will replace its Sundex service, while CSCL will cancel its AEX2 service, a statement issued on behalf of both companies said.
According to the terms of a co-operation agreement signed between the two parties a total of eight containerships ranging in size from 9,400-9,600 TEU, with each of the partners operating four vessels, will be deployed on this new weekly service.
The CMA CGM Norma is scheduled to embark on the service's maiden voyage scheduled for August 22. The port rotation will be: Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Hong Kong, Port Kelang, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Zeebrugge, Port Kelang, and back to Ningbo.
The FAL2 will also enable CMA CGM to provide direct service in Southeast Asia from Port Kelang, and will offer a second weekly departure from Shanghai, Ningbo and Shenzhen, the release added.
