CSCL's new 9,600-TEU ship sets sail on AEX7
ONE of the mainland's largest shipping lines China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) recently launched one of its mega box vessels, the 9,600-TEU New Shanghai, which set sail on its maiden voyage from Yangshan port in Shanghai earlier this month, Xinhua reports.
This is the third in a series of eight vessels of a similar capacity ordered by CSCL. The first, the New Los Angeles, was delivered in June and has been deployed on the shipping line's European service. The second vessel has been leased out.
According to the report, the remaining five vessels are going to be delivered later this year and in 2007. The New Shanghai was built by South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries and was delivered on October 12. The vessel is 336.7 metres long and 45.6 metres wide and has been deployed on CSCL's European service (AEX7), which is jointly operated with CMA CGM of France. The New Shanghai will call at Yantian, Hong Kong, Port Kelang, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Port Kelang and Ningbo, the report added.
